What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are monitoring the accessibility of this website on an ongoing basis and fixing any accessibility issues reported to us.

Our website has recently had a WCAG Accessibility Audit carried out and we are working with our partners to resolve any inaccessible areas of the website. We will provide a further update on non-accessible areas of the website in November 2024.

Our website is currently undergoing an annual Accessibility Audit test and its results will be presented here in detail in due course.

Issues in detail

PDF documents are currently not accessible

Currently PDF documents are missing alternative text and titles. Their structure is not suited for people in need of assistive technologies

Text and headings are not reflecting the page structure

Content is not always marked up as recommended by WCAG accessibility guidelines. The visual representation is suited for sighted web navigation but is not fully supporting screen reader users

Navigation on cards

Navigation on cards is made difficult by an incorrect focus order and use of labels. This is affecting both keyboard and screen reader users

Carousels

At the moment carousels are not providing a robust enough structure to aid users’ control. This has an impact on people with visual/motor/cognitive impairments

Reflow

The website doesn’t adapt gracefully at increased zoom levels, especially on mobile and tablet

Mobile navigation

The hamburger menu is not properly labelled, thus affecting screen reading navigation

Search results pages

The search page doesn’t show the number of results or pagination indicators

Other issues in detail

Tags on cards look like buttons

The way tags are designed are very likely to disorient sighted users as they are barely distinguishable from buttons

Reduce transparency is not implemented

The website is not adopting the prefers-reduced-transparency media query which helps minimise the amount of transparent or translucent layer effects

Next-Prev buttons on Cards

The way these buttons are announced by screen readers is not correct. This is very likely to affect users with visual-cognitive impairments

Issues being addressed at the moment

Non descriptive links

Occasionally links are not properly labelled across IMA website as they are showing the whole url to users. This is not compliant with WCAG accessibility guidelines

The search facility is not properly suited for blind navigation

The search field is repetitevely announced by screen readers: both the labelling and the design are not correct

Users are not notified of filtered results

Sighted users are not notified of the number of filtered results found in the page

Main navigation on mobile

Users with visual impairments are not informed of the presence of dropdown buttons on mobile main navigation
