More about the Securing your Child’s Rights campaign
The campaign was launched after the IMA learned that a number of EUSS eligible children of PSS holders were having difficulties accessing their rights due to no application having been made for them. This included being charged NHS fees for treatment.
The charges were incurred because the child’s EUSS application was not submitted within the required 90-day period. While some healthcare services are free to everyone, individuals without a valid application having been submitted, including babies over 90 days old, may be charged for hospital treatment.
Stakeholders told the IMA that one of the reasons for the issue was a lack of awareness among some parents needing to secure EUSS status for their children.
The IMA’s Securing your Child’s Rights campaign, encourages parents to check their child’s immigration status and consider whether they need to complete an EUSS application for them. It also highlights which rights an eligible child may have difficulties accessing without a valid application to the EUSS. Alongside the lack of access to free healthcare, there are a number of other crucial rights. They include a right to:
- Live in the UK
- Use the NHS for free
- Travel in and out of the UK
- Access further and higher education
- Access benefits
- Work in the UK
